What PRP and PRF hair restoration is

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma and PRF for platelet rich fibrin. Both come from a small draw of your own blood, spun down to concentrate the platelets and growth factors your body already uses to heal. Placed into the scalp, those growth factors signal tired follicles to strengthen and shift back toward active growth. It is your own biology, concentrated and put to work where you are thinning.

How it works

I draw a small amount of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. The spin is where PRP and PRF differ. PRP is spun for a shorter time to release its growth factors quickly, for a more rapid effect. PRF is spun differently and prepared without additives, so it forms a soft fibrin matrix that releases those growth factors slowly and steadily over a longer window. Both work, and which one I reach for depends on your goals.

From there, the concentrate can be delivered two ways: with small injections placed across the thinning areas, or through microneedling, which channels it into the scalp across the surface. We decide together which approach fits you. Over the following weeks, the growth factors support the follicle, improve the local blood supply, and encourage thicker, healthier regrowth.

Who it is for

This works best for early stage thinning, which is exactly why catching it early matters so much. It suits men and women noticing widening parts, thinning at the crown or temples, or a ponytail that is not what it used to be. It is also worth considering if you have noticed more shedding since starting a GLP-1 like semaglutide, since rapid weight loss can push hair into a temporary shedding phase, and this can help support regrowth while you reach your goals. The healthier the follicles still are, the more there is to work with. If your thinning is very advanced, I will be honest with you about what this can and cannot do and point you toward the right next step.

How to prep and what to expect the day of

Come with clean, product free hair. That keeps your scalp ready and the treatment as clean as possible. Plan to head home afterward, not out. You will leave with product worked into your scalp and hair that is not styled, and your scalp needs to breathe, so no hats right after. Give it the rest of the day.

Skip washing your hair for the rest of that day, ideally a full 24 hours, so the growth factors stay where they belong. When you do wash, use a gentle, sulfate free shampoo, and a ketoconazole shampoo a couple of times a week can help calm the scalp during this stage. Ease off heavy sweating and direct sun for a day or two.

To get more out of it between sessions, I often add a topical like Plated Hair Serum to layer growth factor support at home, and minoxidil is a proven addition to the regimen for many people. You will find my full at home tips for early thinning, including how I use minoxidil, in The Skin Guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does PRP or PRF hair restoration cost in Frisco?
A single session is $650, a series of three is $1,700, and a series of six is $3,000 at FRZN Aesthetics. A series gives the strongest results.

What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
Both use your own blood. PRP is spun for a shorter time and releases growth factors quickly, for a rapid effect. PRF is spun differently and prepared without additives, forming a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors slowly for a longer, sustained effect. We choose the right one for you.

Is it injections or microneedling?
It can be either. The concentrate is placed with small injections across the thinning areas, or delivered through microneedling into the scalp. We pick the approach that fits you.

How should I prep, and what is the day of like?
Come with clean, product free hair and plan to go home after, not out. You will leave with product in your hair and a scalp that needs to breathe, so no hats right after and no washing for the rest of the day.

Does it hurt, and is there downtime?
Most people tolerate it well with numbing, and downtime is minimal, usually a day of tenderness or mild swelling at the scalp.

When will I see results?
Hair grows slowly, so results build over a few months. Consistency with your series is what drives the outcome, and we track progress along the way.

Is it right for advanced hair loss?
It works best on early stage thinning while the follicles are still healthy. If your loss is advanced, I will tell you honestly what to expect and help you find the right path.
